Why Quality Matters: The Science Behind Gutology Oral Care

Why Quality Matters: The Science Behind Gutology Oral Care

What we put in our mouths every day really does matter, especially when it comes to oral care.

Scientists have shown that the mouth is home to billions of bacteria - a thriving oral microbiome that supports digestion, immunity, and even gut health. It’s where your microbiome journey begins. 1,2

Yet, most toothpastes on the market are designed to sterilise this ecosystem. They rely on chemicals and detergents to eliminate bacteria - leaving your mouth clean, but stripped of balance.3

At Gutology, we set out to redefine oral care. Supporting the natural balance of the mouth means supporting the entire body. That’s why we built our oral care range around two guiding principles:

  1. Respect the microbiome - avoid ingredients that harm its balance.
  2. Use biomimetic science - replicate what nature already does best.

Why does Gutology use premium ingredients?

Because your mouth deserves the same care as the rest of your body.

Every Gutology formula is built with pharmaceutical-grade, traceable ingredients designed to nurture your oral microbiome - not sterilise it.

We choose purity over shortcuts, using 3 key technologies:

  • Hydroxyapatite mineral science functionalised in our toothpaste and biomimetic in our mouthwash - to help remineralise and protect enamel.
  • Truebiotic® postbiotic technology to support a balanced oral microbiome.
  • Natural plant-based ingredients that clean effectively without disrupting the body’s natural chemistry.

What makes hydroxyapatite so special?

It’s nature’s answer to enamel care.

Hydroxyapatite is the same calcium–phosphate mineral that makes up 97% of your enamel. At Gutology, we use it in two advanced forms — designed to work together for complete enamel protection.6,7,8

 • Functionalised hydroxyapatite  in our toothpaste — binds to microscopic areas of wear, releasing calcium and phosphate to help rebuild the enamel surface.
 • Biomimetic hydroxyapatite in our mouthwash — mirrors the crystal structure of real enamel, leaving a naturally smooth, protective finish.

Together, they form a two-step system that restores, smooths, and protects - without relying on fluoride.

Independent studies have shown that hydroxyapatite offers fluoride-like protection — supporting enamel strength naturally, without the risk of overexposure. It works by binding to microscopic areas of wear and releasing calcium and phosphate when the mouth becomes acidic, working in harmony with the body’s own biology.

We use around 5% non-nano hydroxyapatite, derived from natural minerals and produced in ISO-certified facilities in Europe. Functionalised for advanced enamel care and biomimetic in structure, it mirrors real enamel - providing long-term protection and a naturally smooth feel.

How does Truebiotic® support a healthy mouth?

To support microbial balance, we developed our next-generation Truebiotic® technology, a stable, non-live form of beneficial bacterial components known as paraprobiotics. 10

Unlike antibacterial formulas that aim to kill bacteria, Truebiotic® helps the mouth maintain balance. Laboratory research on its ingredients suggests potential to reduce certain inflammation markers (like IL-1β) and to support barrier peptides such as filaggrin. 11

A well-balanced oral microbiome can play a subtle but powerful role in wider wellbeing, supporting digestion, immune tone, and, as new evidence suggests, even how our bodies signal for rest.5

In a nutshell, Truebiotic® technology uses advanced postbiotics (paraprobiotics) to:

  • Help calm inflammation and support gum comfort 10
  • Encourage beneficial bacteria rather than wiping them out 9
  • Strengthen the mouth’s natural barrier for everyday protection 10

Ingredient Spotlight

97% of our toothpaste formula is natural and every ingredient has been chosen for purity, traceability and function.

Hydrated Silica A gentle mineral polish that removes surface stains without damaging enamel.
Glycerin A natural humectant that prevents the formula from drying out. Ours is certified non-GMO and derived from rapeseed, coconut, sunflower or palm depending on the harvest.
Xylitol A 100% plant-derived sweetener from corn cobs, chosen for its natural ability to support a clean oral environment.
Glycolipids A mild, non-GMO foaming agent created through natural fermentation, free from sulphates, parabens and synthetic surfactants.
Cellulose Gum A plant-based thickener that keeps ingredients evenly blended and stable.
Aroma (Lemon Essential Oil) Our natural aroma comes purely from lemon oil, no artificial flavours or additives.

How does my oral microbiome affect my overall health?

A well-balanced oral microbiome can play a subtle yet powerful role in overall wellbeing, supporting digestion, immunity, and, as new evidence shows, even how our bodies signal for rest. 5

Research has shown that an unbalanced oral microbiome doesn’t just affect the mouth. It can influence gut microbial composition and systemic inflammation, highlighting how oral health and digestive health are linked. 4

Supporting the natural balance of the mouth means supporting the entire body.

What does it taste and feel like?

Clean, fresh, and naturally smooth. Our subtle Mint & lemon essential oil flavour feels bright and refreshing, without the artificial burn or chemical aftertaste. Because clean shouldn’t sting, it should feel balanced.

When will I notice the results?

Most people notice smoother enamel and improved comfort within 2–4 weeks of consistent use. For full benefits, our biological dentist partner, Dr. Seb Lomas, recommends maintaining your Gutology routine for at least three months, allowing hydroxyapatite and Truebiotic® to fully support enamel renewal and microbial balance.

What makes Gutology different from other “natural” brands?

Many natural toothpastes remove harsh ingredients - but stop there. Gutology goes further, combining clinical research, biomimetic science, and microbiome innovation to create a formula that’s gentle and proven effective. It’s the evolution of natural care, evidence-based, sustainable, and genuinely kind to your body’s biology.

Why do most customers choose to subscribe to our toothpaste?
